Parmi les invités de cette 11e biennale, quelques invités font figure de passionnants porteurs d’histoire : c’est le cas du Quatuor Borodine, fondé en 1945 et dont Chostakovitch admirait les interprétations de sa musique. Ce ne sont bien sûr plus les membres d’origine qui le composent mais le lien avec le compositeur reste fort et sera illustré le 17 janvier par les Quatuors n° 1 et 9, ainsi que le Quatuor n° 2 de Tchaïkovski. Autre monstre sacré, le Quatuor Hagen, fondé en 1981, est fascinant dans sa réinterprétation renouvelée de Haydn et Beethoven, dont ils donnent deux des sommets (respectivement « Les Quintes » et les sept mouvements enchaînés de l’opus 131), entrecoupé de l’unique Quatuor de Debussy (21 janvier).
Répertoire et création
Ce grand répertoire du quatuor, de Beethoven à Chostakovicth en passant par Brahms et Bartók, sera défendu par les Quatuors Belcea, Modigliani, Jérusalem ou le jeune Quatuor Leonkoro, tandis que le Quatuor Casals fêtera ses vingt ans avec L’Art de la fugue de Bach (14 janvier, à la Philharmonie). La création sera également à l’honneur, servie par le Kronos Quartet, invité vedette, comme par les Quatuors Béla (le 16), Diotima (avec trois créations dont le 10e Quatuor de Marc Monnet, le 17) et Tana (autour des minimalistes américains, le 18).
