Une soirée d’avril 1973… « C’était la soirée la plus importante de l’année. C’était l’heure du concours Eurovision de la chanson.» Les familles rassemblées devant le poste, le cœur qui bat, le cérémonial immuable et sérieux, le sentiment de vivre un événement international où chaque candidat fait entendre sa langue et une parcelle de sa culture, le vote enfin, désignant le gagnant. Grandiose rituel européen, à une époque où le concours offrait le meilleur de la variété internationale, encore rare sur le petit écran. Massimo Furlan, déjà présent au Festival d’Avignon 2008 lors d’un mémorable Sujet à vif, se fonde souvent sur son histoire personnelle pour inventer et élaborer ses créations : dans Numéro 10, il rejoue la fameuse demi-finale France-Allemagne de 1982, seul et sans ballon, dans (love story) Superman, il devient super héros.
Subjectivité de la réappropriation
1973 propose une réimpression scénique de l’archive, combinant l’objectivité rigoureuse et fidèle (costumes, coiffures, mélodies…) et la subjectivité de la mémoire et de la réappropriation (enfant italien né en Suisse, il soutient le concurrent italien mais le candidat suisse – Patrick Juvet ! – le subjugue… même s’il est suisse). Le metteur en scène et comédien interprète avec une incompétence assumée les chansons, et le concours devient une comédie musicale burlesque et profondément émouvante, questionnant avec acuité et humanité la mémoire, notre rapport au temps et aux produits culturels. Le crooner raté Pino Tozzi discute d’ailleurs des enjeux culturels avec l’anthropologue Marc Augé, le vrai, présent sur scène ! Le philosophe Serge Margel et le spécialiste des musiques Bastien Gallet interviennent aussi. Un formidable jeu où la mémoire et le réel s’entremêlent, et où la pensée et l’émotion se rencontrent – l’une des plus précieuses qualités du théâtre !
