Le Magic cinéma, cinéma d’art et d’essai créé et soutenu par la ville de Bobigny en 1987, présente chaque année, au début du printemps, l’intégrale des films d’un réalisateur qui a marqué de son empreinte la cinématographie mondiale et les adaptations au cinéma d’un auteur. Films inédits, courts et longs métrages, avant-premières, expositions et rencontres avec de nombreux invités ponctuent chaque édition qui lie et met en relief différents univers artistiques : la littérature, la musique, le théâtre et le cinéma. Pendant deux semaines, plus d’une centaine de projections sont offertes au public pendant que, parallèlement, des programmations pour le jeune public scolarisé sont organisées en journée. Cette année, deux des plus excentriques créateurs du vingtième siècle sont à l’honneur : Derek Jarman et Jean Cocteau. La collection Théâtres au cinéma publie un ouvrage consacré à ces deux artistes : Derek Jarman, Jean Cocteau, Alchimie.
Deux adeptes du dérangement
« Si j’écris, je dérange. Si je tourne un film, je dérange. Si je peins, je dérange. Si je montre ma peinture, je dérange et je dérange si je ne la montre pas. J’ai la faculté de dérangement. Je m’y résigne, car j’aimerais convaincre. Je dérangerai après ma mort. » disait malicieusement Cocteau dans son journal, las de devoir toujours justifier de ses productions et de se voir reprocher leur caractère intempestif. Cette capacité à remettre en question les habitudes et les préjugés, Derek Jarman en était également hautement doué. Tournant des films en latin, se déguisant en drag-queen avant l’heure, cette star de l’underground, maître du postpunk, laisse un testament cinématographique incomparable. A la projection de l’intégralité de l’œuvre de Derek Jarman, cette dix-neuvième édition de Théâtres au cinéma ajoute un hommage à Jean Cocteau, autre grand provocateur qui sut utiliser la pellicule à l’instar de bien d’autres supports de création pour exprimer son génie. Plusieurs invités viendront parler de ces deux artistes. La soirée de clôture accueillera Tilda Swinton, comédienne et amie de Jarman. En concert, Simon Fisher-Turner jouera Blue de Derek Jarman autour de l’œuvre duquel sera également organisée une table ronde. Enfin, des soirées-rencontres sont prévues (une autour du queer cinéma avec Didier Roth-Bettoni, une sur le thème de l’Egypte avec des films autour de Cocteau et Jarman, une autour des Super 8 de Jarman) ainsi que deux soirées-débats autour des œuvres de chacun de ces deux artistes majeurs de l’expression des tourments de la modernité.
