En quoi ce thème des Finistères vous a-t-il paru important et inspirant en tant que programmatrice ?
Charlotte Latigrat : Il y a d’abord la recherche chaque année d’un thème qui nous ouvre les portes de continents différents et crée l’opportunité de découvrir des répertoires savants et populaires à travers les cultures de la planète. Nous aimons également les parcours, les grandes routes qui ont permis la circulation de ces cultures. En 2006, nous avions ouvert notre Route de la soie, de la Chine à Marseille, en 2007, avec le rêve de Martin Luther King, ce fut le tour des musiques afro-américaines et de leurs origines africaines, cette année ce sont les îles, les côtes lointaines, révélées à l’Occident à l’occasion des grandes découvertes, et par extension les terres d’exil ou promises.

Comment avez-vous organisé votre programmation qui explore tant d’époques et de continents différents ?
Charlotte Latigrat : L’imaginaire de l’Occident n’a pas effacé de sa mémoire ces lieux mythiques, ces « finistères » géographiques. Mais chaque époque a eu aussi ses « finistères » historiques : le Moyen Age et ses quêtes spirituelles, la Renaissance et la relativité du monde, l’homme romantique face à la nature… Au départ, j’ai pris une mappemonde et j’ai imaginé des escales. Nous aurions pu aborder beaucoup plus que 25 terres lointaines, nous avons retenu celles à forte identité culturelle, des cultures métissées par l’Histoire où les dialogues sont rendus possibles par des musiciens ouverts et curieux.
Votre concert “coup de coeur” ?
Charlotte Latigrat : La programmation est construite comme un tricot, vous enlevez une maille et tout se défait ! Il faudrait choisir, pour vous répondre, un concert original qui mette bien en valeur les influences culturelles de deux continents, un projet où le public découvrirait des musiciens venus d’îles lointaines, qui viendraient pour la première fois en France… Cela pourrait bien être le concert imaginé par Jean Christophe Frisch, Baroque des Philippines, sur un manuscrit de Manille, que des musiciens philippins, de la tradition tausug, interprètent aux côtés des musiciens de l’ensemble XVIII-21.
