Nés à Beyrouth en 1966, Lina Saneh et Rabih Mroué sont parmi les créateurs les plus originaux de la scène libanaise. Comédiens et metteurs en scène, ils travaillent ensemble et séparément à des projets qui sont toujours en lien direct avec la situation politique et sociale de leur pays. Ils installent l’art et la réalité dans une relation dialectique féconde : la représentation éclaire le réel qui la nourrit. Leurs projets communs relèvent donc d’un théâtre documentaire qui ne se contente pas de se faire le reflet du monde, mais qui interroge également le statut et les affres de la représentation. Le plateau n’est pas seulement le réceptacle des histoires individuelles et collectives, mais le lieu de leur transformation et l’espoir de leur élucidation. Ni les faits, ni les événements ne parlent d’eux-mêmes, et encore moins dans un pays comme le Liban, où paradoxes et contradictions sont aussi nombreux que douloureux. L’art est donc, pour Lina Saneh et Rabih Mroué, le moyen d’une mise en lumière de la complexité des existences et des destins.
Parole aux choses
Dans leur nouveau spectacle, c’est au geste ultime de Diyaa Yamout qu’ils s’intéressent. Personnalité publique, militant des droits de l’homme, auteur d’une lettre posthume assurant qu’il n’avait aucun problème affectif, familial ou social, son suicide a électrisé la société libanaise et provoqué un immense débat sur les réseaux sociaux. Sur un plateau dépourvu d’acteurs et uniquement peuplé par les objets quotidiens du jeune homme, Lina Saneh et Rabih Mroué confient au téléphone, au répondeur, au poste de télévision et à l’ordinateur le soin de reconstituer et de raconter ce geste et ses conséquences, des tentatives de récupération politique aux polémiques sociétales et existentielles. Encore une fois, c’est le portrait de leur pays que font Lina Saneh et Rabih Mroué à travers celui de Diyaa Yamout. Après les avoir découverts en 2009, le Festival d’Avignon leur permet donc à nouveau d’exposer ce portrait tout en contrastes sur la scène française.
