NOUVELLE PRODUCTION / THEATRE DU CHATELET
La crise financière de 1929, un producteur qui, pour se renflouer, mise tout sur la production d’un nouveau spectacle intitulé Pretty Lady : tel est le cadre de 42nd Street où une jeune débutante accède à la gloire en remplaçant au pied levé le premier rôle féminin. Ce schéma classique de « backstage musical » pourrait presque figurer comme métaphore de la carrière de Stephen Mear : en 1984, il fut en effet intégré à la troupe de 42nd Street dans le West End. Aujourd’hui, il en signe la mise en scène et la chorégraphie pour le Châtelet ! Selon lui, « cumuler les deux rôles permet d’avoir une vision globale sans qu’une activité n’empiète sur l’autre ». Amateurs de comédies musicales et de claquettes, réjouissez-vous, Stephen Mear promet des propositions nouvelles, « des choses surprenantes pour séduire les spectateurs ». On ne demande qu’à être conquis.
