A Carribean Thing. Le titre de son nouveau disque dont il fête ici la sortie est en soi programmatique. Vibrant depuis 2017 en Guadeloupe, le saxophoniste Xavier Richardeau y officie notamment en qualité de directeur artistique du New Ti Paris, un petit club de jazz logé à Gosier où il n’est pas rare de voir tous ceux que compte de talents cette île. C’est d’ailleurs pour partie dans ce vivier qu’il a trouvé les musiciens susceptibles de lui donner la réplique, y ajoutant l’un des tout meilleurs en matière caribéenne de la scène parisienne, le pianiste Leonardo Montana. Tous au diapason des intentions d’un musicien dont le nouveau répertoire porte les traces d’une inscription tenace dans la « pensée caribéenne ». Autrement dit, une manière d’aborder la musique d’un pas de côté, plus à la cool, ou moins dans le speed survolté des années bop qui furent sa marque de fabrique.
