Marcelo Evelin n’a pas encore l’aura d’une Lia Rodrigues, sa compatriote, mais son travail possède autant de force et de créativité. De la même génération, il a connu la dictature dans son pays, et peut-être est-ce cela qui a poussé sa démarche vers un engagement des corps sans concession… Mais c’est sur notre époque que Marcelo Evelin porte aujourd’hui un regard acide et alarmé. Sans céder à la narration ou au documentaire, son Invention de la Méchanceté (Invenção da Maldade) verse plutôt dans l’abstraction de corps venus de pays et cultures différents, mais présentés dans la plus simple nudité. Autour et avec eux, le public assiste à leurs façons très physiques d’exister dans l’espace du bien et du mal. Espace occupé également par un foyer, symbolisé par des morceaux de bois, qui invite toute communauté à se rassembler autour du feu, sous un plafond de cloches de céramique et de métal.
