Fatima, mots lestes et gestes vifs, douleurs sourdes cachées sous l’humour et la faconde, gère son hammam de main de maître et mène les troupes de baigneuses à la baguette, faisant régner l’ordre parmi les bassines, massant les épaules et soulageant les cœurs. A ses côtés, batifole la fragile et romanesque Samia, qui rêve du prince charmant en poussant son balai et que les marieuses trouvent trop maigre pour lui trouver un parti. Parmi les clientes, Louisa, Latifa, Nadia, Aïcha, Zaya et Madame Mouni : autant de femmes aux vies, aux postures et aux préoccupations différentes, mais toutes prises dans la même Histoire, celle d’une Algérie où se déchirent le pouvoir militaire et les intégristes, et toutes soumises à une même emprise, celles des hommes qui, barbus ou non, abusent de leur pouvoir sur les sexes et les esprits. Les dissensions et les rancœurs entre elles se taisent bientôt, quand il s’agit d’accoucher et de cacher Myriam, jeune fille enceinte que son frère veut éventrer pour laver l’insulte de sa matrice pleine.
Portraits sensibles et authentiques
Autour d’une jetée carrelée et dans un décor que dessinent les lumières de Franck Michallet et la vidéo de Bastien Capela, les comédiennes évoluent de façon chorégraphique, composant de belles images qu’unifient les couleurs des costumes et la répétition des accessoires. Toutes parviennent à donner à leurs rôles une épaisseur et un intérêt véritables et les récits, poignants ou drôles, dressent un portrait complet du statut des femmes aux prises avec les diktats d’une société machiste et corrompue. Si toutes les interprètes de la pièce font preuve d’un vrai et émouvant talent dans cette pièce à la choralité harmonieuse, il faut saluer tout particulièrement le charisme de Linda Chaïb, qui interprète la mascotte de la bande, la jeune Samia au cœur d’artichaut, avec une force, une présence et un bagout formidables. On peut regretter que la présence extérieure des hommes, agressifs et violents, soit traitée avec moins de soin et ne parvienne pas véritablement à suggérer que le havre de liberté du hammam est menacé par ceux qui l’assiègent. Cela étant, le spectacle parvient à équilibrer avec élégance émotion et humour et constitue un bel hommage à l’art d’être femme par temps lourd…
