Rien ne semblait prédestiner Takao Kawaguchi à cette rencontre fusionnelle avec le maître et cofondateur du butô, Kazuo Ohno. En effet, ne fut-il pas membre du célèbre et précurseur collectif Dumb Type qui, réunissant plasticiens, vidéastes, musiciens et performeurs, inventait des pièces multimédia qui prenaient soin de se distancier des avant-gardes précédentes ? Paradoxalement, c’est en voulant explorer sa propre intériorité que Takao Kawaguchi se mit à copier les mouvements de son illustre prédécesseur, qu’il ne connaissait que par les captations vidéo de ses œuvres. C’est de ce travail, accompagné d’importantes recherches, qu’allait naître About Kazuo Ohno, trois ans après la mort de l’icône, faisant grand bruit sur la scène japonaise. Un jeu troublant, un dialogue fascinant entre un artiste et son double à découvrir que l’on soit fin connaisseur de butô ou parfait néophyte.
