La reprise d’Achterland d’Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker est un événement à ne pas manquer au sein de ce « Portrait » de la chorégraphe, initié par le Festival d’Automne à Paris. Achterland, créé en 1990, est une œuvre décisive. D’abord parce qu’Anne Teresa fait entrer, pour la première fois, des hommes dans sa composition chorégraphique. Il lui faut donc inventer un vocabulaire masculin spécifique. Explorant alors des impulsions vers le haut, notamment le saut, elle modifie le rapport au sol pour l’utiliser comme un partenaire complémentaire ou une surface rebondissante. Ainsi, elle invente de nouveaux mouvements, comme ces vrilles à l’horizontale, où le corps est comme suspendu entre l’envol et la chute. De plus, explique-t-elle, « après des spectacles qui s’apparentaient davantage à des représentations théâtrales, je voulais, avec Achterland, revenir à un langage purement dansé qui entretienne des liens avec la musique virtuose de Ligeti et Ysaÿe ». La présence des musiciens sur le plateau permet ainsi de rapprocher les partitions chorégraphiques et musicales. Ces éléments deviendront la marque de fabrique d’Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, pour le plus grand bonheur de ses admirateurs.
