L’Afrique comme terre et Icare comme mythe, voilà à quoi s’est frotté le metteur en scène belge Lorent Wanson. Une aventure culturelle, artistique, sociale et politique, qui côtoie les réalités de villes congolaises avec leur violence démesurée, la vie quotidienne des artistes et la brutalité vive de l’Histoire en route. Une aventure qui refuse un regard occidental condescendant : « Le bien commun n’est pas une négociation des différences. Il est le chemin compliqué, mais fabuleux, l’épopée d’une prise de conscience que le sens de la vie de l’un ne peut être semblable à celui de l’autre. » Très loin de l’Afrique et du Congo, dans la Flandre du 16ème siècle, Pieter Bruegel l’Ancien peignait la confrontation du mythologique au quotidien en imposant un point de vue. Cette distance par rapport au combat définissait en même temps un autre rapport à l’Histoire, plus proche de l’histoire individuelle des êtres. Le plateau d’Africare est une mer de plumes, un océan de déchets, comme autant d’Icare échoués sur les côtes de l’Europe. Un chœur joyeux de six acteurs congolais, des ambassadeurs qui racontent le danger, la peur, la faim, la souffrance sur une terre sinistrée.
