« Plus que la documentation que j’ai amassée sur lui, c’est l’écoute de sa musique qui m’a donné la forme du spectacle. Il me fallait trouver un chemin aussi original que la musique que j’entendais. Je ne voulais pas faire un spectacle poétique avec une alternance de texte et de musique, ni un récit chronologique. J’ai ainsi imaginé cinq petits actes, en voyageant avec lui à partir de la mer – il avait ses racines à Honfleur. L’idée est de partir d’une toile blanche, avec, à la fin, le visage de Satie qui apparaît. Un tableau à la fois drôle et tragique… Le fil conducteur est la musique, il y a une trentaine de morceaux, mais j’ai réussi à faire un spectacle sur Satie sans les versions habituelles des Gnossiennes ou des Gymnopédies. Il me paraissait enfin essentiel de réaliser un spectacle contemporain, surtout pas rétro. Satie aimait la jeunesse, j’ai donc voulu regarder vers l’avenir. La musique de Satie ne peut pas être démodée, il était tellement agité ! Il a une démarche qui est absolument contemporaine : il crée lui-même le vide qui permet à la musique d’exister. »
