On connaît le talent de Philippe Adrien comme metteur en scène et directeur d’acteurs, on le connaît moins comme auteur. On sait en tout cas que sur la scène qu’il crée, les mots acquièrent pleinement leur sens, prenant en compte toutes les subtilités et les fulgurances dont l’art du théâtre est capable. En y regardant de plus près, on constate que c’est bien comme auteur qu’il a entamé sa carrière d’homme de théâtre, dès 1965 avec Adrame, suivi de La Baye (1967) ou Albert 1er (1968). Voici donc que quelques décennies plus tard, le jeune Thomas Derichebourg s’empare avec gourmandise d’Albert 1er, créée par Gabriel Garran, qui multiplie les jeux de rôles, brouille et usurpe les identités, et évoque pour lui « par ses ruptures, ses rythmes et ses intensités, une session de jazz ». Une surprise pour Philippe Adrien de voir cet “olibrius “ d’Albert sortir de son placard ! Une surprise où se mêle forcément la curiosité… Il conseille d’éviter une « identification incontrôlée » avec Albert 1er, d’injecter de la distance dans cette ré-incarnation, ce jeu psychodramatique où le quiproquo dicte ses lois. Le metteur en scène, qui interprète aussi le rôle-titre, est quant à lui prêt à plonger dans « cette pièce-vertige, née du désir de désordre, où l’identité vole en éclats ». A voir !
