Le temps, on le sait, biffe sans pitié les années sur la toise et meurtrit à petits coups les tendres chairs du passé autant qu’il lustre les couleurs du souvenir. Et souvent, les œuvres de la jeunesse n’en scintillent que de plus belle. Ainsi sans doute d’Albert 1er, pièce que Philippe Adrien commit en 1968, la plume chauffée au feu vif de cette année rebelle. Le pari d’exhumer ce texte laissé à la friche de l’oubli depuis la création par Gabriel Garran était risqué. « La bonne blague en effet d’aller rechercher cette pièce et de me la présenter aujourd’hui comme un miroir déformant ! » écrit d’ailleurs l’auteur, qui, depuis près de quarante ans, se consacre à la mise en scène et vient de signer un Ivanov joliment salué. Cédant à la demande de Thomas Derichebourg, comédien depuis une dizaine d’années, voici donc qu’Albert 1er remonte sur les planches… Ou plutôt les « Albert ».
Jeux de rôles
Car, tout ici n’est que quiproquos, imbroglios sado-maso, chausse-trappes, traquenard, manipulations perverses et jeux de rôles. Soit un dénommé Albert, qui reçoit dans son appartement, sis 40 rue Albert 1er, une certaine Claire, qui a rendez-vous avec un Albert (le même mais en autre), qui rencontre Arthur (renommé Albert 2) puis France (transformée en Albertine) et enfin Albert 3, qui disparaît dans les fumées soixante-huitardes. Vous suivez ? « C’est un jeu, pour rire, pour passer le temps on joue en attendant Albert. »… dit Albert. Peut-être un traitement plus contemporain aurait-il pu au moins redonner de l’éclat à cette partition dingo, toute en retournements et détournements alambiqués. Thomas Derichebourg, qui se met en scène dans le premier rôle, se contente paresseusement des effets les plus convenus et peine à diriger une troupe d’acteurs encore verts. Du coup, la pièce paraît terriblement datée et bien pâle décalque de Pinter, Ionesco ou Horovitz. En fait de « pièce-vertige, née du désir de désordre, où l’identité vole en éclats », ce jeu-là semble drôlement vain.
