Chopin, Chabrier, Elliot Carter, Rachmaninov ou Schnittke? La discographie de
ce grand pianiste de l’ex-Yougoslavie (il est né à Belgrade) témoigne de sa
capacité à aborder des mondes musicaux très différents. Complice d’un soir de
ses amis du Quatuor Takacs, il dialogue avec eux dans le monde du romantisme le
plus irrésistible des Quintettes en fa mineur opus 34 de Brahms et en
mi bémol majeur opus 44 de Schumann. Deux sommets absolus en forme
d’archétypes de cette forme très particulière et rare du quintette avec piano,
riche de tant de possibilités, véritables concertos en miniature, inspirés dans
le cas présent l’un et l’autre par Clara Schumann. « C’est une ?uvre si
pleine d’idées qu’elle requiert un orchestre entier. Au piano, la plupart de ces
idées se perdent? Je t?en prie, revois-la encore ! » écrit, en 1864, Clara à
Brahms (dont elle était devenue très proche après la mort de Schumann), alors
que l’?uvre n?existe encore que dans une version transitoire pour deux pianos.
Brahms suivra son conseil, parvenant à libérer son inspiration dans les
possibilités nouvelles offertes par le quatuor à cordes’
