Théâtre de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines / chor. Alonzo King
D’abord danseur au sein de la compagnie d’Alvin Ailey et de l’American Ballet Theatre, Alonzo King développe, depuis plus de trente ans, un style qui prend naissance dans le ballet classique mais puise à des sources diverses. Au Théâtre de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, sa compagnie présente trois pièces : Writing Ground, sur des musiques sacrées juives, chrétiennes, musulmanes et tibétaines, qui fait écho aux poèmes de Colum Mc Cann ; Concerto for two violins, qui épouse les rythmes de Bach ; enfin Men’s Quintet, qui révèle une pensée du ballet comme « géométrie universelle ». Une écriture ciselée, portée par des danseurs à l’énergie sans pareille – que le chorégraphe invite à « irradier l’obscurité des théâtres« , chacun d’entre eux étant conçu comme un rai de lumière…
