Dès le début du spectacle apparaît l’auteure, yeux et bouche en sang, aveuglée comme le sont tous les acteurs de cette farce grotesque, véritable « jeu de massacre qui tient du music-hall et du radio-crochet, du reality show obscène et du goûter d’anniversaire, du freak show foireux et du spectacle de marionnettes ». Cécité des puissants ; égale cécité de ceux qui les élisent et choisissent le pire en croyant l’éviter. Donald Trump est l’occasion plutôt que la substance de la pièce qu’Elfriede Jelinek a commencé à écrire la nuit de son élection. L’écrivaine autrichienne ne règle pas ses comptes avec le pantin ridicule qui règne désormais sur le monde libre mais interroge la capacité qu’a la servitude volontaire de se choisir les maîtres les plus abjects. Cette pièce est « la pièce politique du moment » et Falk Richter la met en scène de manière baroque et provocatrice, avec une fureur à la hauteur du scandale qu’elle dénonce.
