Depuis 2003, le « Forum Voix Etouffées » œuvre avec obstination pour une meilleure connaissance musicale des compositeurs bannis et le plus souvent tués par le régime nazi. Une mise à l’écart dont les répercussions se font encore ressentir dans la vie musicale aujourd’hui. L’entrée récente mais ô combien tardive de La Ville morte de Korngold au répertoire de l’Opéra-Bastille illustre bien le phénomène… Les concerts et conférences proposés par Voix étouffées font donc œuvre utile en cherchant à susciter l’intérêt des interprètes et programmateurs mais imposent aussi dans le même temps une douloureuse et saisissante réflexion sur les raisons de ce vide artistique jamais vraiment comblé plus de soixante ans plus tard. Pourquoi la vie musicale internationale a-t-elle continué de passer sous silence ces nombreux compositeurs juifs européens persécutés entre 1933 et 1945 ? La quatrième édition du Forum reviendra sur des musiciens déjà mis en valeur dans les éditions précédentes (Zemlinsky, Schreker, Zeisl, Ullmann ou Toch) en élargissant le cercle à plus d’une vingtaine d’autres « compositeurs de l’exil et de la déportation », faisant ainsi émerger un continent musical englouti : « Max Kowalski, le compositeur de l’« autre » Pierrot lunaire, Wolf Simoni, plus connu en France sous le nom de Louis Saguer, l’un et l’autre joués dans les concerts de l’Union culturelle juive, organisation d’apartheid mise en place par les nazis dès 1933, Wladimir Vogel, Ilse Weber et ses touchants Poèmes de Theresienstadt…» souligne Amaury du Closel, directeur artistique du Forum Voix Etouffées.
Cinq semaines de concerts
Parmi les temps forts de la programmation, remarquons aussi la création d’une nouvelle production de l’opéra Der Kaiser von Atlantis de Viktor Ullmann au Théâtre Dejazet (ouvrage composé dans le « camp modèle » de Terezin et révélé en France par Paul Méfano), du 8 au 12 janvier, et l’hommage rendu, en sa présence, à la femme compositeur allemande Ursula Mamlok, exilée avec sa famille en Equateur, puis aux Etats-Unis en 1941. Le public parisien découvrira deux de ses œuvres chambristes : son sextette Girasol pour flute, clarinette, violon alto violoncelle et piano, le 24 janvier à 16 h au Théâtre de Vanves puis Confluences, composé en 2001, pour clarinette, violon, violoncelle et piano, le 28 janvier à 20h au Mémorial de la Shoah à Paris. Un colloque est aussi organisé par Philippe Olivier, musicologue en résidence du festival, consacré à « La musique spirituelle persécutée par le national-socialisme », du 27 au 29 janvier à la grande Synagogue de la Victoire, au Mémorial de la Shoah et à l’Oratoire du Louvre, avec la participation d’Ursula Mamlok.
