« Mes créations ont à voir avec des champs esthétiques séparés avec d’un côté, le thème apollinien de l’ordre et de la perfection et de l’autre, le thème dionysiaque du désordre et de la ruine. J’éprouve aujourd’hui le besoin d’articuler ces antithèses. Aux trois interprètes Margrét Sara Gudjonsdottir, Jonathan Capdevielle et Jonathan Schatz, s’ajoute un quatrième : le paysage, appréhendé comme le reflet d’une expérience intime. La forêt d’abord réaliste puis symbolique est foulée par ces trois personnages appelés à traverser leur propre cheminement spirituel. La contemplation visuelle de ce paysage permet le glissement de la beauté, depuis la force et l’ordre de la nature bienveillante jusqu’à l’image du chaos et d’une civilisation empreinte de sauvagerie. Aussi nos sens, notre pensée et notre questionnement moral sont-ils sollicités par ces expériences esthétiques qui provoquent à la fois désirs et répulsions, les preuves de notre ambivalence instinctive.
Pulsions primitives
L’art est l’espace privilégié de ce dialogue avec nos ressorts intimes, y compris les plus extrêmes, sans aucun danger pour l’équilibre de la communauté. Les trois personnages sont archétypiques, un entraîneur sportif pour l’autorité et la garantie de l’ordre et deux idoles post-adolescentes significatives de notre culture contemporaine : une jeune athlète pour la beauté et la perfection et une jeune rockstar pour la beauté liée à la ruine. La rencontre de l’entraîneur avec la rockstar suicidaire déchaîne des pulsions primitives et entraîne le chaos, sous la poésie des mots de Dennis Cooper et la musique de Stephen O’Malley. L’athlète assiste au spectacle du laid et du disharmonique, non sans un plaisir équivoque. Ce jeu de forces écartelées est perceptible à travers les interprètes, mais aussi grâce à la scénographie, aux volumes de la sculptrice de fumée Fujiko Nakaya, aux objets – les poupées construites par Raphaël Rubbens, Dorothéa Vienne-Pollack et moi-même -, aux lumières de Patrick Riou, aux phénomènes provoqués par les jeux de machinerie et la vidéo de Fujiko Nakaya. L’expérience artistique peut ainsi provoquer des troubles proches de l’expérience mystique, provoquant une sensation d’indistinction du corps au monde. »
