Si conte de fées il y a, c’est plutôt du côté de l’histoire de la danse qu’Edouard Lock est allé puiser l’inspiration qui fait tout le sel de cette nouvelle création. Les princes et princesses d’Amjad sont ceux du Lac des cygnes et de La Belle au bois dormant, deux monuments de la danse signés Marius Petipa qui hantent toujours les chorégraphes d’aujourd’hui. Travailler sur ce genre de mythologies, surtout à la façon d’un Edouard Lock qui positionne danseurs et danseuses sur pointes, revient à s’appuyer sur un fonds commun, quasi-universel, fait de références en lien direct avec l’imaginaire de chacun. Pourtant, le chorégraphe, dans sa gestuelle, fait souvent l’effet d’une bombe en projetant les corps dans des dimensions horizontales et verticales inédites, cassant les canons du mouvement tels qu’édictés dans la danse de Petipa. La musique elle-même joue la carte de la déconstruction, en faisant frissonner Tchaïkovski sur les mixages de David Lang.
