Amor Azul, texto « amour bleu », c’est au départ une histoire qui réunit deux talents : l’esthète tropicaliste pop star Gilberto Gil et le compositeur et chef d’orchestre Aldo Brizzi. Le second dirige depuis 2016 l’opéra de Bahia, la ville natale du premier. Autant dire que malgré des parcours a priori éloignés, ils avaient matière à partager pour créer une œuvre qui dépasse naturellement le cadre des frontières stylistiques. C’est sur cette base qu’ils ont composé cette œuvre originale, qui célèbre la rencontre entre la musique populaire brésilienne, les rythmes de transe, les arts lyriques, la musique classique européenne, le Cantique des cantiques et même la mystique indienne. Soit une bande-son syncrétique en adéquation avec le livret qui narre les aventures des avatars de Krishna et de Radha dans le Brésil actuel. Une histoire de sentiments partagés, déclinant les multiples stations de la passion amoureuse, entre jalousie et désir. Somme toute, tout un programme.
