Elle était apparue au bout du chemin. Les cheveux clairs blanchis sous la lumière brûlante. Debout. Immobile. Elle avait fendu les champs brûlés, fendu le regard des hommes usés par la fatigue des vendanges. Elle était arrivée jusqu’à la ferme. Elle cherchait du travail, dit-elle. Elle avait attendu dans la grange, fumé plusieurs cigarettes, parmi le désordre moite des ouvriers, seule dans l’ivresse âcre du crépuscule. Le patron, enfin, serait arrivé. L’aurait regardée, désirée. Puis ils auraient disparu dans la nuit. Sans doute cela s’est-il passé ainsi. Et le souvenir de cette fille de passage ce soir cogne encore. Obsédant quoique incertain. Tomeo, l’intendant, et Niru, la domestique, rappellent le récit, murmurent les mots gonflés de désir, ligotés par l’interdit. Leurs paroles se cherchent, se frôlent, s’esquivent. Se chevauchent. Se frayent une voie dans la chair nouée. Et toujours continuent de tisser ensemble le fil de l’histoire, leur histoire. Dehors, le vent claque en rafales sèches et affole la poussière.
Un théâtre de sensations
Alors, parfois, les corps s’égarent dans le tressaillement d’un soupir, la caresse clandestine d’un espoir volé. S’abandonnent peut-être à la vision furtive d’un unisson, aussitôt chassée, mais toujours là, qui déchire le ventre. Pour dire cet amour impossible, l’auteur et metteur en scène Anne Théron a composé un quatuor, où la danse se glisse dans les failles du verbe, quand l’indicible étouffe jusqu’au souffle. Nirupama Nityanandan (Niru), juste, intense, et Pedro Cabanas (Tomeo), enlacent délicatement l’écriture sensible, très filmique, se réfugiant parfois au creux de leur langue maternelle, elle le Tamoul, lui l’Espagnol, pour se dérober à l’assaut d’un instant trop ardent. Leur jeu, tenu à distance par la narration, laisse deviner des fièvres irrémédiables. Raphaëlle Delaunay, belle danseuse, et Éric Stieffatre rôdent dans l’ombre des pensées et captent les projections mentales, présences fantasmées qui s’étreignent le temps d’un boléro ou d’un tango. Le travail précis des lumières, la musique, les voix sonorisées, au plus près des acteurs, aiguisent tous les sens et saturent l’atmosphère d’une sensualité perlée de nostalgie, presque irréelle, fantasmatique. Derrières les persiennes closes, se joue à huis clos le drame du désir défendu. « Des souvenirs, c’est tout ce que nous avons, n’est-ce pas ? » dit Niru. Et la puissance érotique du langage.
