Les pièces de Raimund Hoghe sont « tirées au cordeau » : fines, complexes, pleines d’humanité mais toujours implacables. Mettant en scène son corps malingre et bossu, exposant sur scène des rituels géométriques et des lignes de force vertigineuses, il met à nu nos propres fragilités. Avec An Evening with Judy, il renoue avec la série de solos-portraits de chanteurs. Après le ténor juif Joseph Schmidt, poursuivi par les nazis et mort en camp d’internement, puis Maria Callas, autre icône vivant au 36, Avenue Georges Mandel, c’est la figure de Judy Garland que le chorégraphe interroge. L’enfant-star, bientôt brisée par les drogues, sur fond de Somewhere over the rainbow… Derrière les lieux communs de la vie de star et les films que l’on croit connaître, Raimund Hoghe nous fait toucher du doigt la complexité d’une vie, qu’une surexposition nous empêche paradoxalement de voir.
