« Chez moi il y a toujours eu des musiciens qui venaient jouer à la maison. Ils apprenaient aux enfants du village, dont ma sœur et moi, à chanter et jouer sur plusieurs instruments. À Cuba, la musique fait partie du quotidien. » Ce petit coin de paradis, c’était chez Carlos Maza, génial chilien installé dans un village vers Matanzas, après avoir vécu à La Havane. C’est là que la jeune Carla a connu ses premiers émois en musique, avant qu’elle ne débarque en Espagne, puis à 16 ans à Paris, pour étudier au conservatoire. Dix ans, bien des collaborations (de Jean-Louis Aubert à Vincent Ségal), des scènes sur le monde entier et deux disques sous son nom plus tard, la violoncelliste est de retour avec Bahia, du nom du quartier où elle passa sa petite enfance. Dans cet album, elle parvient en solitaire à faire résonner toutes les musiques en version latine qui façonnent sa personnalité, d’une évocation d’Astor Piazzolla à un hommage à Miriam Valdès, sœur de Chucho Valdès décédée du Covid qui fut sa prof de piano.
