Vingt ans après son premier récital dans le lieu, Andreas Staier, fidèle parmi les fidèles, retrouve le Théâtre de la Ville. Ce musicien passionné d’organologie est entretemps devenu l’un des plus grands spécialistes de l’interprétation sur instruments d’époque, tant sur clavecin qu’au pianoforte. Ses enregistrements des lieder de Schubert au côté du ténor Christoph Prégardien en particulier ont ouvert de nouveaux horizons à l’interprétation de ces chefs-d’œuvre du romantisme. Andreas Staier, qui n’aime rien tant que partager la musique, se présente pour ce concert en compagnie de sa consœur Christine Schornsheim. Les deux musiciens s’étaient associés en 2007 pour un disque remarqué d’œuvres de Mozart enregistrées sur un curieux instrument, hybride de clavecin et de pianoforte. Point de telles étrangetés pour ce concert parisien, mais un programme magnifiquement pensé pour pianoforte à deux ou quatre mains. Schubertiens dans l’âme, les deux musiciens interprètent d’abord ensemble les Variations sur un thème de la « Marie » de Hérold du compositeur viennois (Andreas Staier seul jouera le deuxième Impromptu de l’opus 142), mais aussi deux autres romantiques plus rares en la personne des Français George Onslow (Sonate à quatre mains en fa mineur op. 22) et Alexandre Boëly (Sonate op. 17, en fa mineur également). De ce dernier, Christine Schornsheim donnera également à entendre quelques-uns des Trente Caprices op. 2.
