Pour terminer sa saison, dans la pleine lumière du plateau de l’Opéra Bastille, l’Orchestre national de l’Opéra de Paris se présente en format symphonique. Il se choisit pour guide le britannique Sir Andrew Frank Davis, directeur musical respecté de l’Opéra de Chicago, dans un remarquable programme associant le plus naturellement du monde, avant l’entracte, Un sourire de Messiaen et le Concerto pour piano n° 20 de Mozart (avec David Fray en soliste) avant la belle surprise de redécouvrir la Symphonie n° 4 «L’Inextinguible» de Carl Nielsen. Composée en 1914-1915, cette partition parmi les plus importantes de son auteur a été conçue comme un véritable hymne à la vie : « La musique est l’expression la plus sensible de la pulsion de Vie. Cette symphonie décrit les sources les plus primitives du flux vital et le bonheur de sa perception, c’est-à-dire, ce qui touche l’être humain, le monde animal et végétal comme il peut être perçu ou vécu. Cette musique n’est pas basée sur un programme décrivant son évolution dans un espace et un temps limités, mais donne un aperçu des couches émotionnelles vitales qui restent semi-chaotiques et primitives…» a expliqué le compositeur danois.
