« La musique de Michael, impossible à classer, comprend des éléments de la musique classique, des musiques ethniques, des marches et du jazz – le tout fondu en une déclaration passionnée »… ainsi s’exprime le grand saxophoniste de jazz Dave Liebman lorsqu’il évoque le violoniste Michael Nick. Ce grand improvisateur, instrumentiste et arrangeur est aujourd’hui le compagnon de route, véritable alter-ego musical, de la chanteuse grecque Angélique Ionatos. Un tandem magique qui a donné naissance il y a un an environ au magistral album « Eros y Muerte » (chez Naïve). Le spectacle correspondant a vu le jour aux Abbesses en septembre dernier mais, pour l’heure, Ionatos et Nick tournent dans l’intimité d’une formule en duo. Au plus près d’un monde nourri par les mots des plus grands poètes chantés dans trois langues différentes, Pablo Neruda en espagnol, Kostis Palamas en grec et Anna de Noailles en français :« J’ai découvert des fils secrets, inconscients qui les reliaient… J’ai compris qu’ils parlaient de la même chose. A l’image du poète chilien, magnifique, qui parle toujours de la mort en parlant de l’amour… Cela rejoignait tout ce que j’avais envie de chanter à ce moment de ma vie : l’amour et la mort » confie la chanteuse.
