C’est une rencontre qui semblait évidente. Deux voix surdouées chantant les poètes de la Grèce. Deux guitaristes subtiles et envoûtantes. « Je ne crois pas que les chemins se croisent par hasard. Je ne crois pas au hasard. Je crois à la chance. Et aux rencontres qui viennent à l’heure juste. Lorsque le temps y consent » affirme Angélique Ionatos au sujet de sa complicité avec sa consœur et compatriote Katerina Fotinaki. En 2005, elles participent toutes deux à la mise en scène de L’Orestie de Xenakis au Festival d’Athènes. Immédiatement, le courant passe et la première propose à la seconde de reprendre avec elle l’une de ses plus vibrantes créations, Sappho de Mytilène. Deux ans plus tard, les deux femmes se retrouvent pour donner vie au Prince Heureux, opéra pour enfants d’après Oscar Wilde. Les voici à nouveau réunies autour d’un nouveau spectacle au titre évocateur, Comme un jardin la nuit. « Ce n’est pas la Grèce qui nous réunit mais l’amour fou que nous éprouvons pour notre langue maternelle et ses poètes, ainsi qu’une passion pour nos guitares » précise Angélique Ionatos. Une volonté les anime : faire connaître au grand public le compositeur Manos Hadjidakis disparu en 1996. Autour de cette figure tutélaire de la musique hellénique, les deux voix divaguent avec un gai savoir des plus réjouissants. Chansons traditionnelles réarrangées, poèmes de Sappho, tango, berceuse, surprises en français, leur spectacle est un hymne aux traditions vocales par-delà toute frontière.
