Au cinéma, on parlerait d’un casting de rêve, d’un duo de charme ou d’un choc de titans… Et l’on n’aurait pas tort ! La sublime mezzo-soprano suédoise et le grand pianiste de jazz américain ont entrepris une tournée de concerts traversant les plus hauts lieux musicaux de la planète. Au Palais Garnier, comme au Wigmore Hall de Londres (début juin), Anne Sofie von Otter chantera sans surprise des œuvres classiques de Sibelius (Maj / Jag är ett träd / Systrar / Bröder), Fauré (Les Roses d´Ispahan / Clair de Lune / Après un rêve), Brahms et Richard Strauss, avant de s’évader vers d’autres horizons avec une pièce nouvelle spécialement écrite par Mehldau, puis avec quelques « standards » des Beatles (le génial « Blackbird » déjà au répertoire du pianiste depuis plusieurs années) ou de Léo Ferré. Un confrontation a priori séduisante mais, attention, car dans ce registre de rencontres décalées, les exemples de rendez-vous manqués sont fréquents… Après avoir collaboré avec Renée Fleming en 2005 (qui a donné l’album Love Sublime chez Nonesuch), Brad Mehldau a depuis confirmé ses relations de plus en plus proches avec le monde de la musique classique en créant à Paris, en mars 2007 au Théâtre du Châtelet, son Concerto pour piano The Brady Bunch Variations for piano and orchestra avec l’Orchestre national d’Île-de-France. A remarquer et saluer au passage : la gamme de prix de places particulièrement modérés pour une telle affiche.
