Kurt Masur, qui fut pendant onze ans chef de l’Orchestre Philharmonique de
New York, s’y était familiarisé avec le répertoire américain. Il dirige ce soir
le Concerto pour violon de son confrère André Previn (2001). Fièrement
ancrée dans la tradition symphonique américaine, l’?uvre évoque tantôt
Bernstein, tantôt Hollywood, ce qui n?est guère étonnant chez ce maître de la
musique de film, récompensé par quatre Oscars. Mais certains moments, en
particulier dans le mouvement lent, regardent davantage vers le post-romantisme
d’Alban Berg. Peut-être faut-il voir là l’influence du jeu d’Anne-Sophie Mutter,
alors épouse et muse du compositeur, et qui en est de nouveau la soliste. En
deuxième partie de concert, Kurt Masur revient à ses racines européennes avec la
monumentale Dante-Symphonie de Liszt, évocation musicale de la Divine
Comédie dédiée à Richard Wagner.
