En 1983, une toute jeune chorégraphe défraie la chronique. Un an après s’être révélée avec Fase, au vocabulaire répétitif et envoûtant, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker témoigne avec Rosas danst Rosas d’une force de composition qui lui vaudra un immense succès international. Le public reste le souffle coupé devant les quatre danseuses – il s’agit alors d’Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Michèle Anne De Mey, Fumiyo Ikeda et Nadine Ganase – qui, clouées à leurs chaises, se laissent emporter dans une chorégraphie tranchante, voire diabolique. Elles croisent et décroisent les jambes, chavirent et se redressent, enserrées par des gestes compulsifs. Un unisson toujours travaillé par le contrepoint, une uniformité presque coercitive d’où jaillissent, avec d’autant plus de puissance, l’émotion et l’énergie propres à chacune d’elles. C’est de leurs corps que provient la musique : souffle, frottements, claquements, rejoints dans la seconde partie par une composition de Thierry De Mey et Peter Vermeersch.
Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker à nouveau sur scène
Rosas danst Rosas n’a pas quitté le répertoire de la compagnie Rosas, dont le nom même est lié à cette pièce fondatrice. Plusieurs générations de danseuses se sont formées en l’apprenant. En octobre, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker elle-même sera l’une des quatre interprètes, partageant le plateau avec des danseuses de la « nouvelle génération », Cynthia Loemij, Sarah Ludi et Samantha Van Wissen. Mais l’intérêt de cette reprise réside également dans sa mise en relation avec une pièce récente : Zeitung, créée en janvier 2008 au Théâtre de la Ville, est également présentée en octobre. Dans cette pièce pour neuf interprètes, on retrouve les tensions qui n’ont pas quitté la chorégraphe. C’est aussi l’occasion pour elle de poursuivre, avec le pianiste Alain Franco, son questionnement du rythme et de la musique : elle voyage de Bach à Schönberg, en passant par Webern. Mais vingt-cinq après Rosas danst Rosas, ces constructions musicales complexes et les structures rationnelles à la limite du vertige se laissent pénétrer par un rapport plus distancié à l’écriture : la gestuelle des danseurs fait cette fois la part belle à l’improvisation, dans une spirale fluide et toujours renouvelée.
