La metteure en scène Mariana Araoz, co-fondatrice de la compagnie Collectif Masque, transpose la tragédie de Sophocle dans le contexte le la Guerre Civile espagnole, au moment de Guernica (1937), moment de terreur contre une population sans défense. Née en Argentine et petite-fille de Républicains espagnols, Mariana Aaroz se rappelle ainsi tous ces morts sans sépulture étouffés par les dictatures auxquels la rebelle Antigone par son intransigeance donne voix. L’action se déroule le lendemain du bombardement, et quatre enfants survivants sont le chœur qui raconte l’histoire d’Antigone. Les personnages non masqués (Antigone, Ismène et Hémon), au jeu très stylisé, côtoient les personnages masqués (Créon, le Grade, Eurydice et Tirésias). Au milieu des décombres, des poupées évoquant les disparus participent à l’histoire. Créé à l’échelle européenne avec le Skillinge Teater suédois, le projet s’inscrit aussi dans le cadre d’un projet de la compagnie sur le masque et la femme.
