L’altiste français Antoine Tamestit, grande figure de cet instrument que l’on dit mal-aimé, entretient depuis l’enfance une relation passionnée avec les suites pour violoncelle de Bach. La rencontre avec les six chefs d’œuvre du Cantor fut déterminante dans son parcours jusqu’à le conduire, enfant, à s’éloigner du violon pour se tourner vers la tessiture plus grave et chaude de l’alto… Depuis, les Suites sont à son répertoire et sonnent sous ses doigts et l’archet de son merveilleux Stradivarius (l’Alto « Mahler » de 1672) avec un « je ne sais quoi » en plus de légèreté et de vivacité dans la danse et de cristallin dans les couleurs. Grand gagnant en septembre 2004 du 53ème Concours International de l’ARD à Munich (premier prix, prix du public, deux prix spéciaux), Antoine Tamestit l’amoureux de Bach est aussi un artiste engagé dans la défense de la musique de notre temps, en particulier auprès de son ancienne professeur Tabea Zimmermann avec qui il enregistre le duo Viola, Viola de Georges Benjamin et crée le Concerto pour deux altos de Bruno Mantovani. Le programme de cette soirée témoigne du large spectre de son répertoire : l’altiste français joue les Suites n°1, 3, 5 de Bach, associées à deux pièces courtes de deux géants du XXè siècle : Ligeti (Hora Lunga) et Stravinsky (Élégie).
