La rencontre en duo du chanteur Antonio Placer et du pianiste Jean-Marie Machado fait d’emblée événement. Ces deux faiseurs de sons nomades explorent encore et toujours la thématique de l’exil et de l’état intérieur du migrant, confronté plus que quiconque au sentiment de solitude dans ce que l’expérience comporte de confrontation à sa mémoire familiale intime mais aussi à la quête de rencontres et d’universel. « Je sais aujourd’hui qu’à l’intérieur de mon corps, il y a un village dans lequel vit la totalité de mes ancêtres. Ils chantent, ils pleurent, ils marchent, ils racontent leurs histoires. Avec tant de grands-parents dans mes entrailles, avec tant d’expériences vitales différentes, je deviens un être universel » … confie Placer, le Galicien nomade, grenoblois d’adoption. Avec Machado, le déraciné, plus que jamais hanté par les ondulations du bassin méditerranéen, ils signent Republicalma, premier volet d’un triptyque appelé Republicanto consacré à l’exil et la migration, se jouant avec grâce des frontières musicales, temporelles et géographiques.
