En confiant la réalisation de cet opéra à Noriko Baba pour la musique, et à Mié Coquempot pour la mise en scène, l’Ensemble 2e2m s’attendait-il à cette écriture décomplexée, avide d’influences, et hybride ? Mié Coquempot est une habituée des collaborations fructueuses, avec la musique comme terrain de jeu. Ses origines franco-japonaises, mais surtout ses expériences étroites avec des compositeurs – comme Pierre Henry -, auront sans doute été déterminantes dans son appréhension du projet, de l’écriture du livret à l’aspect scénique. L’œuvre éclaire la figure d’Aoï, épouse de Genji, et s’inspire du livret écrit par Zeami au XIVème siècle, qui constitue déjà une réécriture. Ce drame d’une « Haute Dame », concubine du noble Genji, drame de la rivalité amoureuse et du temps qui impose sa loi, est l’occasion de se plonger dans l’état des âmes d’aujourd’hui, plongée mâtinée d’élans punk, d’images de la jalousie, de la vengeance et du pouvoir, sous l’influence du mouvement graphique japonais heta-uma. Un opéra de haute volée et de haute voltige.
