Depuis plusieurs années, Hamid Ben Mahi revendique pour le hip-hop une danse d’auteur, fondée sur une recherche au long cours avec ses collaborateurs. Sa nouvelle pièce traduit cet engagement pour une danse à la fois exigeante et hors des sentiers battus : Apache signe la rencontre du rock et du hip-hop, deux mondes fondés a priori sur des codes extrêmement éloignés… C’est l’œuvre d’Alain Bashung qui a donné au chorégraphe l’envie de se confronter aux jeux rythmiques du rock, à son alliance de mélodie et de déchaînements subits. Cet univers musical est en fait l’occasion de révéler des aspects du hip-hop rarement mis en valeur : son potentiel expressif ; les contrastes physiques qu’il peut faire naître ; la grande douceur qui parcourt les interprètes dans leur concentration… Un hip-hop qui révèle ce qu’il a de plus singulier, en acceptant de se transformer au contact d’une altérité.
