Ne pas travailler en studio pour cet album a-t-il chamboulé votre manière de jouer?
Arthur (Moriarty) :L’idée est d’éprouver les morceaux sur scène, de voir comment ils sont reçus. Tout ça nous a permis de gommer des sensations fausses, d’aboutir à une vérité plus immédiate. Par exemple pour « la Chanson de Circée », un morceau qui nous traîne dans les pattes depuis des années, c’est en osant le morceau sur scène qu’on a enfin su comment nous devions le jouer.

Cette tournée a dû changer votre rapport à la scène…
A. : Nous avons appris à ouvrir l’intimité de notre groupe au public. Au sein du « Moriartyland », nous sommes frères et soeurs d’élection. Mais désormais le cercle familial inclut les spectateurs… Une intimité amplifiée grâce au travail du son, et aux lumières de Fred Poulet qui rendent la scène très cinématographique.
Les textes du nouvel album restent charnellement anglophones…
A. : Nous sommes à la base trois à écrire, mais tout le monde participe. Pour ma part, je rêve, je m’énerve, je suis ému en Anglais. Je ne sais pas à quel point nos textes comptent pour ceux qui écoutent… A force de jouer devant des publics variés, que ce soit au Japon ou devant des viticulteurs du Maine et Loire, on sait que des fragments de sens parviennent aux gens. Et peut-être est-ce aussi bien que nos textes restent nimbés d’un petit mystère poétique…
