A la fois atelier de recherche et troupe de création prenant une part active à la vie du Centre dramatique régional de Tours, le J.T.R.C. participe à toutes les mises en scène de Gilles Bouillon. Né en 2005, ce collectif composé de cinq comédiens et d’un technicien venant d’achever leurs études répond à une belle ambition : placer « la permanence artistique au centre de la Maison Théâtre ». Quelques mois après Le Jeu de l’amour et du hasard de Marivaux, c’est à l’univers exigeant et insolite de Martin Crimp que le directeur de l’institution tourangelle confronte les membres de sa troupe. Aux côtés de quatre interprètes extérieurs (Catherine Benhamou, Flora Brunier, Xavier Guittet et Gaëtan Guérin) Hélène Stadnicki, Claire Théodoly, Bertand Fieret, Florian Haas et Antoine Sastre donnent corps à quinze des dix-sept scénarios qui composent Atteintes à sa vie. Dix-sept scénarios représentant autant de variations sur les possibles identités d’une certaine Anne, figure énigmatique et fragmentaire à travers laquelle Martin Crimp regarde le monde. Le monde auquel renvoie son regard est un monde inquiétant, équivoque, un monde dont les rudesses et les incertitudes surprennent parfois nos rires avant que d’aussitôt les faire basculer dans l’effroi.
Des rires trop tranquilles
S’appuyant sur une scénographie sophistiquée de Nathalie Holt, la représentation conçue par Gilles Bouillon déploie une profusion de couleurs, de paillettes, de musiques, de costumes, d’images… Dans cette version résolument bigarrée d’Atteintes à sa vie, chaque scénario semble en effet envisagé comme une sorte de spectacle à part entière. Plutôt que de construire un voyage épuré à travers la langue et l’écriture de Martin Crimp, le metteur en scène a choisi d’élaborer une succession de situations obéissant chacune à une esthétique et un cadre d’incarnation propres. Si ce volontarisme scénographique permet d’arrimer un large public à une œuvre comportant des aspects déroutants, il prend également le risque d’escamoter la part de dangerosité et de noirceur de ce texte. Car, on rit ici parfois trop volontiers, ou du moins de façon trop libre, trop tranquille. Comme si, alors, la complexité de cette écriture ne pouvait résister aux trop-pleins de la scène. Et puis, à d’autres moments, cette même complexité parvient à s’affirmer, mêlant trouble, émoi, gravité, à un rire qui se demande s’il peut encore jaillir. C’est précisément ce qui se passe lors de Plutôt drôle, scénario saisissant à l’occasion duquel Catherine Benhamou donne naissance à l’une des plus belles perspectives de la représentation.
