Le mois s’ouvre au Duc avec un hommage assez original, celui du saxophoniste ténor Michel Pastre en quintette, connu pour son travail à la tête du Big Band qui porte son nom, à un météore de l’histoire du jazz, le fulgurant guitariste Charlie Christian disparu en 1942 (à l’âge de 25 ans), après avoir imposé la guitare électrique dans le jazz de l’époque, en particulier au sein du groupe de Benny Goodman (le 8, avec David Blenkhorn à la guitare…). Quatre rencontres féminines, occasions de découvertes de musiciennes souvent peu entendues encore à Paris, sont ensuite à remarquer… Avec la pianiste Clara Ponty, fille du grand violoniste (le 6), puis la magnifique chanteuse brésilienne Catia Werneck (les 9 et 10), la jeune pianiste texane (de New York) Helen Sung (le 12 et 13), diplômée du Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz (où elle eut comme professeurs quelques géants comme Clark Terry et Ron Carter), à la tête de son nouveau quartette américain composé de Logan Richardson (sax), Josh Ginsburg (contrebasse) et Donald Edwards (batterie), et enfin avec la batteuse Julie Saury (fille de Maxime Saury, grande figure du jazz « New Orleans » à la française) pour la sortie du nouvel album « The Hiding Place » de son trio composé de Carine Bonnefoy au piano et Felipe Cabrera à la contrebasse (le 17).
