Depuis 2008, le dramaturge Sylvain Levey a entamé un processus de création et de compagnonnage en chantier avec Laurent Maindon et le Théâtre du Rictus, sous le titre générique Asphalt jungle. La première partie abordait la question de la violence gratuite à travers le fait divers. La deuxième étape (Au pays des) décrit la souffrance au travail et le suicide en entreprise. Interrogeant les choses les plus graves avec humour, et faisant ainsi d’autant mieux déflagrer la violence des situations, Sylvain Levey expose la vie d’un cadre d’entreprise, rétrogradé de poste en poste jusqu’à figurer dans la parade du parc d’attraction qui l’emploie. Humiliation insidieuse, harcèlement continu, souffrance et larmes cachées, le texte traque « les barbaries modernes qui avancent masquées » et conduisent au pire avec une violence sourde, souvent aveugle et toujours implacable. Si ce spectacle fait écho à des événements récents et si « le théâtre ouvre ici une boîte de Pandore », c’est essentiellement pour « aider à interroger et à soulever les questions qui réveillent les consciences », comme l’affirme le Théâtre du Rictus, qui fait œuvre citoyenne.
