« Dans Une heure en ville, les spectateurs choisissent le personnage qu’ils veulent suivre – il y en a sept au total – et par groupes réduits, assistent à ses faits et gestes de la vie quotidienne. Les comédiens se déplacent, se croisent, interagissent dans une fausse ville suggérée par quelques décors – à Bourges, on sera dans l’ancien hôpital militaire – et à leur suite, les spectateurs activent leur voyeurisme, se placent au plus près, choisissent leur angle de regard. L’idée est née d’une improvisation – on a suivi un comédien qui jouait l’écrivain quittant son bureau pour rentrer chez lui – au cours de laquelle j’ai ressenti quelque chose que je n’ai jamais retrouvé ailleurs. C’est une théâtralité à part, un effet de réel particulier. Avec ce dispositif, il se déploie en fait une étrange réalité qui nous a menés directement à Kafka, chez qui on est toujours au plus près du personnage, sans savoir ce qui se passe dehors. Nous avons donc travaillé sur son œuvre complète. On retrouve dans Une heure en ville des personnages, des situations de ses romans et carnets, des procédés de collage et de montage qui sont à l’origine de mon désir de mettre en scène. »
