Entrée de choc avec le puissant trio suisse Plaistow pour leur nouvel opus « The Crow », jeune groupe polymorphe à rapprocher de leurs aînés américains du Trio Bad Plus (le 7 à 21 h au Sunside en entrée libre !), puis, choc encore, avec la découverte du “New Quintet » de la chanteuse Elisabeth Kontomanou intégrant deux soufflants de poids – Sam Newsome au sax et Glenn Ferris au trombone – mis sur orbite par la batterie solaire de Leon Parker (du 7 au 9). A suivre : le guitariste australien Alex Stuart en quartet (français) et la musique ouverte à l’Afrique et à l’Inde de son album “Around” (le 11), la découverte d’un nouveau « premier couteau » du jazz polonais : le trompettiste Piotr Wojtasik en Quartet avec Adam Pieronczyk aux saxs (le 14), la voix magnifiquement rauque de l’américaine Kellylee Evans Quartet, remarquée lors de son 2ème prix Thelonius Monk en 2004, pour la sortie de l’album “Nina” chez Plus Loin en hommage à Nina Simone (le 15). Autre découverte du jazz vocal, petite perle pêchée dans les eaux turquoises de la côte d’Azur, distinguée en 2008 par un double prix au Festival de Jazz de Juan les Pins : Virginie Teychené. Elle signe en quintet, avec François Chassagnite à la trompette, “I feel so good” (chez Altrisuoni), son deuxième album personnel (le 17). Enfin, signalons l’événement de retrouver en club à Paris le prodigieux guitariste Kurt Rosenwinkel, suisse New-Yorkais d’adoption (partenaire des plus grands, de Brad Mehldau à Mark Turner) à la tête de son trio américain régulier composé d’Eric Revis à la contrebasse basse et Ted Poor à la batterie. Nouvel album : “Secret world” (du 23 au 26).
