Premier coup de cœur, partagé avec Quincy Jones en personne (qui a produit son album) : le pianiste cubain Alfredo Rodriguez ouvre les festivités, en trio, les 5 et 6. Pour Mr Jones, “Le jeune pianiste joue comme aurait sonné Monk s’il avait mûri dans le corps de Chick Corea et été élevé sous l’influence de Bach, Chopin et Stravinsky dans un conservatoire de la Havane”… Rien à ajouter ! Autre jeune étoile du piano, adoubée par des géants tels Lee Konitz ou Martial Solal, le pianiste Dan Tepfer (mois de 30 ans) présente en solo la musique de son nouvel album “Goldberg Variations” chez Sunnyside, audacieux projet dans lequel il joue la musique du chef-d’œuvre de Bach en intercalant entre chaque pièce ses propres improvisations inspirées par la musique du grand compositeur (le 21). Enfin, le français Benjamin Faugloire défendra la musique chatoyante et le trio de son nouvel album “The diving” (le 23). Musicien complet, passé par les mathématiques, l’histoire de l’art et la pop music, Faugloire construit patiemment son projet sur la durée en misant sur la vitalité organique de son trio, composé de Denis Frangulian à la contrebasse et Jérôme Mouriez à la batterie, véritable instrument clé de son discours musical ouvert autant aux influences classiques qu’aux références rock. Exemplaire.
