Récent lauréat des trophées du Sunside à l’unanimité, le pianiste Jean-Charles Acquaviva, en concert le 8 janvier, fait partie de ces musiciens dont le talent commence à se faire connaître autant que leur nom. Le sien, chantant, est comme une annonce métaphorique de la fluidité rythmique de son jeu. Sur scène les 17 et 18, Jesse Davis, pour sa part, serait plutôt un vieux routier respecté du saxophone, en cela qu’il promène son alto depuis plusieurs décennies, avec un style volubile et acéré qui découle en droite ligne de Charlie Parker. Connu comme batteur, Jorge Rossy possède aussi des talents de vibraphoniste qu’il cultive au sein d’un Vibes Quintet qui s’agrémente notamment de Billy Hart à la batterie et Mark Turner au saxophone, à voir les 21 et 22. Quant à Walt Weiskopf, s’il est le type même du « musicien pour musicien », c’est-à-dire un maître méconnu du grand public, son passage les 31 janvier et 1er février au Sunside constitue une excellente occasion d’aller découvrir ce saxophoniste apprécié, notamment, de Brad Mehldau.
