Fervent admirateur de l’œuvre de Gluck – qui ne le serait pas ? Elle est l’âme même de l’opéra – Berlioz entreprit en 1859 de réviser, moderniser et rendre justice à Orphée et Eurydice. Le rôle d’Orphée passe alors de la voix de castrat à la voix de mezzo : celle à l’époque de Pauline Viardot. C’est aujourd’hui la jeune contralto britannique Jess Dandy qui reprend le rôle aux côtés de Raphaël Pichon. Le chef de l’ensemble Pygmalion, lors de la première présentation de cette production en 2018, avait retenu Marianne Crebassa – nous pouvons sans crainte le suivre dans ses choix cette fois encore, d’autant que le reste de la distribution est inchangé avec Hélène Guilmette en Eurydice et Léa Desandre en Amour. Belle et intelligente, la mise en scène d’Aurélien Bory sonde les enfers dans leur calme profondeur, avec des mouvements rythmés par l’intervention de circassiens qui se joignent aux déplacements du chœur.
