En quoi consiste précisément le dispositif de Géométrie de caoutchouc ?
Aurélien Bory : Le spectacle aura lieu sous un chapiteau. Pas un chapiteau du passé avec les rayures et les étoiles. Mais un chapiteau de loueur, archétypique, carré, blanc, grand et très impressionnant. Sous ce chapiteau, les spectateurs seront disposés en quadrifrontal afin que personne ne soit gêné par les mâts. Le mât servira en quelque sorte de cadre de scène comme au théâtre. Et dans ce dispositif, les spectateurs assisteront aux évolutions élastiques d’une représentation du chapiteau sous lequel ils sont assis, en format réduit, au gré des actions de câbles et de danseurs circassiens.
Qu’arrive-t-il à ce chapiteau ?
A. B. : Au départ, ce qui m’intéressait, c’était l’écart entre l’idée, le concept de chapiteau, et sa réalité. L’idée de chapiteau est séduisante. Le chapiteau est un élément qui touche au merveilleux. C’est un ailleurs. Un habit de l’espace. Un élément qui cache une partie de l’espace et ne fait que l’habiller. Un peu comme l’arbre dans Alice, le chapiteau troue l’espace et suscite de l’imaginaire, donne envie de voir ce qu’il y a en dessous. Mais dans la réalité, le chapiteau n’est pas beau, on y est mal assis, il y fait toujours trop chaud ou trop froid, et il est cher et compliqué à installer. Mon sujet dans ce spectacle est donc de voir le merveilleux qui se cogne à la réalité, de voir le chapiteau tanguer entre ses représentations idylliques et le concret.

Le travail sur l’espace guide donc encore une fois votre travail ?
A.B : Depuis le début, je crois que je travaille sur la question de savoir ce qui fait théâtre, de trouver les formes qui font théâtre et le bousculent. Dans mes créations, ma démarche est donc d’imaginer l’espace d’abord. C’est toujours l’espace qui définit l’action. Mais la matière humaine sera ici davantage présente que dans Sans objet. Même si les danseurs circassiens y auront encore un aspect marionnettique, la malléabilité du chapiteau apparaîtra aussi comme une métaphore du circassien souple et contorsionniste, et plus largement de l’être humain dans sa capacité d’adaptation.
Vous parlez de métaphore, mais dans Sans objet, le questionnement politique sur la technique
s’effaçait derrière la dimension poétique du spectacle, en sera-t-il de même ici ?
Je préfère proposer une contemplation davantage qu’une thèse ou qu’un questionnement. Pour moi, il y a poésie quand il y a paradoxe et contradiction, que tout ne va pas dans le même sens. J’ai envie de créer des impressions fortes parce qu’il faut un trouble pour réveiller l’imaginaire. Je ne me dédouane pas du sens, mais ce qui fait sens doit être complexe.
