Théâtre de la Ville / Chor. Lucinda Childs / Scéno. Franck Gehry / Mus. John Adams
S’inscrivant dans la lignée de Dance (1979), chef-d’œuvre présenté lors de la dernière édition du Festival d’Automne, Available Light (1983) de Lucinda Childs poursuit sa recherche de jeux d’échos et de dédoublement. L’œuvre, créée pour le Museum of Contemporary Art de Los Angeles, tire son titre (Lumière disponible) de ce bâtiment ceint par une grande fenêtre laissant filtrer la lumière extérieure. Conçue pour une scène à deux niveaux, imaginée par l’architecte Franck Gehry, la pièce, tout en transparence, joue sur la notion de contrepoint. Superposant deux groupes de danseurs, l’espace est travaillé par une multiplicité de plans, formant une sorte de géométrie variable à la luxueuse texture. Ce dispositif trouble le spectateur et pervertit sa vision par allitérations d’un même mouvement. La partition de John Adams, Light Over Water, distille une musique répétitive qui transforme chaque pas en autant de motifs structurant une chorégraphie miroitante.
