« Chanter m’aide à ouvrir mon cœur. Avec ta voix, tu ne peux plus rien cacher. Tu es à nu. Impossible de tricher ! » Avec “Aurora”, son premier disque chez Blue Note en quintet avec percussions et oud, le contrebassiste virtuose du jazz se transformait en chanteur de mélodies ladino, celles que fredonnait sa mère dans son enfance… Paru en 2011, “Seven Seas” s’inscrit encore dans cette voie, tout en élargissant le spectre, s’ouvrant à toutes les influences qui composent l’identité de ce musicien composite, entre versions latines et visions originelles. « J’ai toujours souhaité être aux marges des catégories où on voulait m’enfermer. J’aime le jazz pour sa liberté et sa créativité. C’est une attitude face au monde, plus qu’un style définitif. »
