Après la chute de Mobutu Sese Seko, les deux gardiens de sa propriété lausannoise sont restés cloîtrés dans cette maison de luxe, craignant des représailles de la part du successeur de l’ancien Président zaïrois. C’est à partir de ces faits réels que René Zahnd a écrit Bab et Sane, pièce à deux personnages au sein de laquelle Habib Dembélé et Hassane Kouyaté se retrouvent dans une situation de survie, à des milliers de kilomètres de leur pays d’origine. « René Zahnd relate, dans une langue directe et poétique, les différentes étapes de l’attente angoissée des deux gardiens, explique Jean-Yves Ruf, metteur en scène du spectacle. » Quelle différence existe-t-il entre régner sur un pays ou régner sur une personne ? Quelles forces régissent l’attitude du dominé et celle du dominant ? Sondant la question de la relation à l’autre mais aussi à soi-même, Bab et Sane met en place un « petit théâtre du pouvoir » qui révèle « un goût prononcé pour le jeu et un faible avoué pour cette cascade qui sait trouer le silence : le rire ».
